In road jointing construction, selecting a suitable asphalt pump requires comprehensive consideration of factors such as asphalt type, construction conditions, efficiency, and maintenance. The following are common types of asphalt pumps and their applicable scenarios for your reference:

1. Gear Pump

Features: Simple structure, low cost, easy maintenance, suitable for low to medium viscosity asphalt.

Applicable scenarios:

Joint construction of ordinary asphalt (penetration degree 60-220).

Small scale or temporary projects, such as repairing road cracks.

Advantages: Stable flow, suitable for situations with low pressure requirements.

Attention: High viscosity modified asphalt (such as SBS modification) may lead to accelerated wear.

2. Screw Pump

Features: Smooth conveying, low pulsation, suitable for high viscosity or particle containing asphalt.

Applicable scenarios:

Jointing of modified asphalt (such as SBS, rubber asphalt).

Long distance or continuous operations (such as large-scale road repair projects).

Advantages: Wear resistance, wide adaptability to asphalt, especially suitable for high temperature and high pressure working conditions.

Attention: The initial investment is high, but the long-term maintenance cost is low.

3. Piston Pump

Features: High pressure transmission, high precision, but complex structure.

Applicable scenarios:

Grouting of cracks that require high-pressure injection (such as deep crack repair).

Refined construction (such as bridge joint treatment).

Attention: Regular maintenance of seals is required and is not suitable for asphalt containing impurities.

4. Thermal Oil Jacketed Pump

Features: Asphalt pump with heating function to prevent asphalt solidification.

Applicable scenarios:

Construction in low-temperature environments (such as winter maintenance in northern regions).

Asphalt transportation that requires long-term insulation.

Advantage: Reduce the risk of asphalt cooling blockage.

Attention: High energy consumption, requires supporting heating equipment.

Choose Suggestions

1. Ordinary asphalt jointing: gear pump (economical and practical) or screw pump (more durable).   

2. Modified asphalt/high viscosity asphalt: screw pumps are preferred.   

3. High pressure or precision construction: plunger pump.   

4. Low temperature environment: Hot oil insulation pump or combined with electric heating system.   

Other precautions

Flow rate and pressure: Select the flow rate (such as 5-20 L/min) and pressure (0.3~1 MPa) of the asphalt pump based on the width and depth of the crack.

Portability: Small projects can choose manual or electric portable pumps.
